A Democrat in Utah?

What do you get when you put a democrat in Utah? A pretty lonely fellow. Dirk, my dear hubby, is a democrat. We live in a very republican party of Davis County. So, this past week, he went with his mom to the democratic caucus for our area. You can guess what happened. Six people showed up for his mom's precinct. In his precinct, Dirk was the ONLY ONE!! So not only does he get to be precinct chairman, he is now officially a DELEGATE and gets to vote in the democratic convention. So, where my vote as meager as it is can count, his will count much more because he is a real DELEGATE. Delegate by default is how I put it. He's happy though because ever since we got married, he has not had many opportunities to do politics, so this is his avenue to get back in to his college degree (political science).

Please help me choose

Okay, so I have a card club that I am going to in two weeks and need to bring 15 of the same baby cards. I created two different cards and want your help in choosing which one to make 15 cards of. So fellow bloggers, jump in and give me your opinion. If you want to see me change anything, please let me know what you think would help it look better. Thanks a lot! (ps - I'm calling the first card 'peek a boo' and the second 'babies touch world with love')

3 good things

Well, for my three good things:

1. Emma lost her 2nd tooth this week. She pulled it out all by herself. She was very motivated for the $$$ (who would have thought $1 was a lot, but to a 5 year old, she feels rich).

2. Jenni played "I Am a Child of God" in primary today on the piano and did a beautiful job. She's doing great in piano lessons and loves to practice.

3. James is feeling better and heading to the state math tournament on Tuesday representing his school (he was the top 7th grader in the whole school and won $25).

4. A bonus - Happy Birthday Beth (my mom). You are an awesome woman and I admire you for all you have taught me over the years. I love you!!

A downer - we put an offer on a house, but backed out because it just didn't feel right. So we are back to the start - looking for just the right house. Hopefully it will happen soon.

Sick weekend

Okay, I have read all your blogs about kids getting sick and was so grateful that we missed it. It couldn't last forever and this weekend, we got it. Friday James came home from school and had a slight fever and went straight to sleep. Later that night he was running around claiming there were bugs all over him and whining that he couldn't sleep. Saturday he was coughing and just looking awful. I was at the store when he called me about something and I just got the feeling I needed to take him to the doctor, so I called and they closed in 5 minutes but would stay open till we got there. An hour later, he was diagnosed with influenza A as well as strep. Dirk gave him a blessing (thank goodness for the priesthood). The insurance wouldn't cover the $125 tamiflu meds but we did it anyway (they suggested the whole family get on it, but I couldn't stomach $500 on the chance we MIGHT get sick). I'm so glad I listened to that gut feeling (the spirit) and taken him in. By Saturday night his fever was 104.8 and he wouldn't budge, but just sleep. I made him take a cold shower and that lowered it to 104.3. It's very scary seeing your child so sick. All his medicine he threw up within an hour of taking it, so we never knew how much he got in. Some must have helped though because by that night his fever was down to 102.7, very reasonable considering. By Sunday he was doing much better and Monday morning he was bouncing on the walls and insisted on going to school (Mr. 4.0 perfect attendance would never miss school unless he was in the hospital). Now let's just pray that nobody else gets it.

I need advice

Alright all you bloggers out there. I need your opinions and advice. Last year Dirk and I got three cell phones, one for me, one for Dirk and one for the kids since we didn't have a home phone. Now Dirk's job got him a blackberry phone and is paying for it, which frees up a phone. James, being in junior high, has been using the kid phone whenever he has to stay after school or has activities. We currently have a house phone. The question is...what do we do with Dirk's old phone? We can't disconnect it since our contract is until next January. It only costs us $10 a month since it's in a family plan. Jenni wants it really really bad and has taken to carrying it around with her, even though she never calls anyone. Emma likes taking pictures of everyone with the camera on it. I have a lot of trouble giving a 9/almost 10 year old her own cell phone. So I want your advice. Do we just let Jenni and Emma use the phone if they are going somewhere (gymnastics, friends, piano lessons, etc) or do we stick it on the shelf and never mess with it again? Speak up!! I want to hear your opinions.
